Group Project (30%)

The major assignment for this course will be a project in which you will work in groups of 3-5 to collect texts of a particular kind (e.g. love songs, condom packages, editorial cartoons, radio talk shows, casual conversations, advertisements for particular products) and analyze them using some of the ideas we have discussed in the course. The project can be handed in in any form you wish (hard copy, video, webpage, PowerPoint presentation, etc.). For more advice about the project, click here. 

On-line Discussions (10%)

Throughout the course you will be expected to participate in the on-line discussion forums that will be carried out through Blackboard. You should post at least one contribution to a discussion forum per week. When participating in the discussion forum, you should read carefully what your classmates have written and reply to them. You may participate in any discussion forum at any time in the semester. New discussion forums will be created as the semester progresses.

Reading Test (10%)

In week 8 you will take an on-line reading test. The test will consist of 10 multiple choice questions based on the reading passages. You can access the test using Blackboard.

Final Examination (50%)

The finial examination will consist of multiple choice and short answer questions as well as a number of texts (written, spoken, graphic, video) for analysis.
