Characteristic Features

-the shell is more or less flat and star-shaped at the base.

-it appears like a web-foot consisting of several radiating ribs
and interspaces between them

-the main ribs are about 7 in number; minor intervening ribs are few

-the inner side is milky white, surrounded by a black marginal zone

-it is not usually more than 2cm in body length
