Characteristic Features

-Body oval, high and compressed.

-Occiput with a dark blue blotch.

-Mouth small and protractile, forming a tube which is pointed downwards.

-Upper half of dorsal spines black.

-A yellow longitudinal band passing from the top of eyes to the base of
caudal fin.

-Body silvery white.

-Size: 30-100 mm

Ecology
Feed on phytoplankton, medusae, Copepoda, lucifer, Ostracoda, pelagic
and benthic Amphipoda, Chaetognatha, Tunicata, Cladocera, Crustacea
larvae, benthic algae, Polychaeta, Lamellibranchia, Gastropoda, Macrura,
Cumacea, Isopoda, worms and detrital organic matters.
