Ten criteria for a good research report

  1. A clear, simple and precise title that tells readers what the research is about.

  2. A summary/synopsis/abstract that summarizes the whole report/article

  3. An introduction that clarifies the research problem being addressed and its significance.

  4. A review of the relevant literature, which shows how the study being reported is located.

  5. A clear statement of research questions or hypotheses.

  6. A clear account of how the data were collected and an indication of the limitations of the methods used..

  7. A clear account of how the data were analysed and an indication of the limitations of the methods used.

  8. A well laid out section showing the findings or results in terms of answers to research questions or proof of hypotheses.

  9. A clear discussion of the significance of the findings, conclusions that can be drawn and any implications or recommendations.

  10. A list of references and possibly appendices.
