Part 1 Using the Web
Using any search engine of your choice find URLs for the following:
- An IT and Business Resource e.g. journals, magazines, websites etc. about issues and/or technologies in the Business Information Technology field.
- A Python Programming Resource
- A home page for learning HTML
- A home page for learning Python
- Prioritize your finding in 1 to 4 above, rank a web page that, in your opinion, is a well-designed web page -- one that you like, find interesting, and feel that would attract a lot of "hits". List five things that make this your choice for this part of the exercise.
Part 2 Student Survey
- Examine your PC. Using a four column table format identify and record the following information: 1st column: Program name, 2nd column: software manufacturer, 3rd column: software version, 4th column: software type (operation system, browser, editor/word processor, spreadsheet, database, etc.).
- Examine your mobile phone. Create another four column table similar to the one in question above. This time identify the apps, then record the requested information.
- For your immediate work environment, describe your work (e.g. preparing an assignment), and give the description of your work process, identify area of automation, and application of the IT in hardware, software, data, and communications.
Part 3 Exercises
- In the article "Does IT Matter?" by Nicholas Carr, what is Carr's main argument about information technology?
- Find an example of fake news, misinformation, or incorrect data from the internet, explain the reson why you think the news/information/data is not the truth it claims.
- Using w3schools.com as reference on HTML
element, or other websites of your choice. Edit Lab1 under Pages group in Canvas to add the table of your answer for Q6 in Part 2.
