The C Language
general purpose “mid-level” programming language
ALGOL 68 (1968) + B (1970) -> C (Dennis Ritchie ,1972), C++ (1986). The predecessor of B is a language called BCPL for use in Operating System and language design.
first version of UNIX was implemented using B in 1970 and rewritten in C in 1994
its weakness: not easiest to learn; often leads to incorrect or inelegant programming habits
