Features:

1) Body:                 Body elongated, anterior cylindrical while posterior compressed.
2) Head:                 Mouth split moderate; teeth conical, non-uniformed, 2 rows of teeth on both jaws.
3) Dorsal fin:          Well developed and confluent with caudal fin.
    Anal fin:             Well developed and confluent with caudal fin.
    Pectoral fins:      Present.
    Pelvic fins:         Absent.
    Caudal fin:         Pointed, confluent with dorsal and anal fins.
4) Scale:                 Body smooth, lateral line pores developed.
5) Color:                Upper body light brown, ventral lighter in color. Dorsal, anal and caudal fins
                             margins black, near the end of tail almost all black.
6) Size:                  Attains 52cm TL, common size unknown, specimen size 30cm TL.


Distribution:           In Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea and Natal, South Africa to Japan.
Habitat:                 On offshore, on soft sandy mud and in coastal areas with sandy bottoms.
Economy:              Low priced fish. By fishery, no/rarely aquaculture.
Specimen found:   Bought at Yue Wan Estate Market, Chai Wan, Hong Kong
Cooking Method:  Fish ball.
