Characteristic Features

- Outline variable, usually mytiliform with terminal beaks, sometimes
greatly expanded posteriorly, sometimes arcuate; occasionally
subcylindrical with beaks not quite terminal.

- Sculpture of fine radial riblets ventrally with coarser bifurcating riblets
posterior.

- Colour usually dark brown - black tinged violet - black internally.

- Shell to 4 cm.
