Tolo Harbour is a partially enclosed water body in the
north eastern part of Hong Kong. The major urban centres are Shatin, Tai
Po and Ma On Shan. According to the data on water quality reported by the
Environmental Protection Department, it shows a gradient of poor water
quality from the enclosed inner Harbour to the outer Channel leading to
Mirs Bay. In the Shatin area, water is relatively more turbid, richer in
nutrient contents, chlorophyll-a and higher in E.coli levels.
