One of the best ways to learn about intercultural communication is to do it. This semester you will be required to make one or two new online or face-to-face friends from another culture and spend the semester getting to know them. At the end of the semester you should write a 5-10 pp. report analyzing your communication using the concepts you have learned in this course.

In your report you should discuss the similarities and differences among you and your new friends based on the four dimensions of culture we have studied:

* ideology
* relationships, face, power
* forms of discourse
* socialization

You should also discuss how these similarities and differences affected your communication, how the communication was different with each one, and how you can account for these differences. Remember to take into account inter-discourse communication and all of the different discourse-systems you and your friends participate in.
