Favorite Books

There are so many photo books available, it is difficult to choose.  Unfortunately, many of them are not really useful.  They may put too much focus on peripheral topics, or are too repetitive, or don't really teach much.  I look for good advice, good examples, and a good price. The ones shown here are among my favorite books on photography.  I own all of them. Below is a quick review of each.  Clicking on the books will lead you to Amazon.com.
Collecting and Using Classic Cameras An absolute cool book on classic cameras (i.e., those built before about 1970).  I read this one several times.  It covers the major classic brands, provides information on how to buy a classic (old) camera, and includes numerous great pictures taken with old equipment.
The Photography Book This is another must-have book.  It is essentially a collection of many of the most famous photos taken over the last 150 years.  The emphasis is on pictures, but each photo has some information associated with it.  Learn from the masters of photography by studying their pictures.

It's now available as a small paperback. A great deal!

Kodak Guide to Shooting Great Travel Pictures This is a great book with advice just for travel pictures.  Very focused that way.  Wonderful examples inside, organized by theme.
Photography For DummiesŪ This one is my least favorite favorite.  I like its down-to-earth advice.  But it is very much focused on auto-everything, cameras.  It's also too focused on the new, small APS film format. If you prefer APS over 35mm, and prefer auto-everything cameras, it is an excellent choice.  Good advice and good examples.
The Complete Photography Course A very good allround photo book.  Many clever erxamples.  Unfortunately, this book is out of print and a little hard to find.
