Thank you for the interest in the Hong Kong Longitudinal Study on Adult Development and Aging (HKADA) data. To contribute to the academic research and policy making, the HKADA data can be accessed and used for academic and research purposes. People who are interested in using the HKADA data have to complete and submit the "Application Form for Assessing HKADA Data and Questionnaire" (hereby "Application Form") found below. Approval of each application for the use of HKADA data will be determined by the HKADA Research Team after considering various factors (such as purposes of using the dataset, research questions on the requested variables, etc.). Notification of the application result will be sent to the applicants. Customized data and documentation files will be sent to the qualified applicants via email. The procedures usually take for within 30 working days.

While the HKADA Research Team makes great effort to ensure the accuracy of the released data and documentation files, users are reminded that errors may be present. The HKADA Research Team will notify the qualified applicants via email about the changes in our data and documentation files.

By completing and submitting the "Application Form", the applicants agree to all of the following:

1. Make no attempts to identify study participants.

2. Do not to transfer the HKADA data to any third party other than staff or students from whom the applicants directly supervise.

3. Delete the HKADA data and documentation files three years after completing the secondary data analysis, or upon a reasonable request from the HKADA Research Team, whichever is soonest.

4. If the applicants plan to use the HKADA data as part of written work and/or publication, please acknowledge the source of the HKADA data:

In text:

"The baseline study of the Hong Kong Longitudinal Study on Adult Development and Aging was funded by the Public Policy Research Funding Scheme of the Government of HKSAR (2020.A1.101.20B), which was awarded to Dr. Dannii Yeung of City University of Hong Kong."

In reference:

"HKADA Research Team (2023). The baseline data of the Hong Kong Longitudinal Study on Adult Development and Aging. Produced and distributed by the Hong Kong Longitudinal Study on Adult Development and Aging Research Team with funding from the Public Policy Research Funding Scheme of the Government of HKSAR (2020.A1.101.20B)."

5. Please email an electronic copy for any research outputs (e.g., dissertation, journal article, book, book chapter, research report, etc.) involving the use of the HKADA data to the HKADA Research Team at hkada.cityu@gmail.com.

6. Report immediately to the HKADA Research Team at hkada.cityu@gmail.com any disclosure of study participant identity as well as any discovery of flaws or errors in the data or documentation files.

7. Notify the HKADA Research Team through email (hkada.cityu@gmail.com) of changes in your email address, position, organizational affiliation or organizational status.

Users are strongly advised to check the Terms of Use prior assessing and/or using the HKADA data and/or documentation files. Users agree to abide by the Terms of Use by accessing and/or using the HKADA and documentation files, but such access and/or use will not create any other contractual relationship or any patient relationship between user and the HKADA Research Team. The HKADA Research Team is not obliged to follow up or contact the user.

The HKADA Research Team may make changes to any information on the HKADA Website including the Terms of Use at any time as it sees fit. Changes to the Terms of Use will be posted online. By accessing and/or using the HKADA data and documentation files, user agrees to the Terms of Use, which may be amended from time to time without prior notice. If users do not agree with the Terms of Use, please do not use the HKADA data and permanently remove the data and documentation files from their electronic devices.

This data dictionary contains basic information on the variables measured in the HKADA baseline study.
