If you are looking for a research position (Research Fellow/Associate/Assistant) or PhD/MPhil study and interested in the following research topics, please feel free to contact with me.

*          Robust Control for HVAC Processes: HVAC systems are characterized by uncertainties, nonlinearities and constraints. Because the control performance of local loops in HVAC systems influences significantly the efficiency of Building Automaiton System (BAS), to improve the local-loop control performance is not only for maintaining the whole system operating efficiently but also for energy conservation. This research is to systematically study the modeling of complex MIMO HVAC processes for robust control design and to develop practical robust control algorithms for such processes (computationally undemanding, easily understandable with less user intervention)

*          Optimal and supervisory control for building systems: Optimal and supervisory control addresses the energy efficiency control of intelligent building systems, which optimizes the system operation while provides the desired indoor comfort and healthy environment under dynamic working conditions. General framework for optimal and supervisory control for building systems has been established, but current methods and techniques cannot obtain desirable and satisfactory performance in practice. Future research work is to further understand the application capacity of current techniques and develop practical optimization strategies.

*          Fault detection and diagnosis strategies for building systems: Fault detection and diagnosis strategies for building energy performance, HVAC subsystems and their control instrumentations (i.e. sensors, drivers, etc.) are used to guarantee the building systems operating efficiently. I studied fault detection and diagnosis for robust chiller sequencing control. With the building automation system becoming more and more complex, future research will concentrate on developing system-level fault detection and diagnosis strategies based on energy/mass balance.

*          Intelligent building system integration: This research is to establish a network-based management platform which integrates various types of controllers, sensors, control devices and intelligent building management subsystems and make them function as a system. Since a large intelligent building consists of thousands of components, to establish an efficient communication network is the key issue of this research. In the future, I want to investigate the application of new communication models, such as wireless or peer-to-peer techniques, in intelligent building systems.
