 1.3 The problem

¡@

The problem then for anyone concerned with good design and a more comfortable and safer environment is to be able to find, understand and use appropriate anthropometric data to ensure that the man-made world is better fitted to the users.

¡@

The consequences of not fitting things to the user can range from minor inconvenience, like shirts that don't quite fit, to serious injury or death, like when a driver cannot properly reach the controls of a vehicle or cannot see enough of the space around the vehicle to drive safely under all conditions.

A good match between design and user should improve efficiency, safety, health and comfort; make things easier to use and; improve the quality of our lives.
