Biodiversity of Sedentary Polychaetes in Hong Kong

Polychaetes are abundant in marine sediments.   In this webpage, all specimens of sedentary polychaetes were collected from sea bottom by a 0.05 m2 van Veen grab from 5 locations (see the map below) in Hong Kong coastal waters.   From these locations, 17 families were collected.   The highest number of individuals collected was Minuspio cirrifera (Spionidae).   They can be found in all the 5 locations.   A large number of them ( > 500 individuals per 0.45 m2) were collected in Victoria Habour.   This tolerant species are common in organic polluted areas (Gray 1981) so they are the indicator of organic pollution.
